Twitter Account Poking Fun at Ocasio-Cortez Deactivated, Creator Cries Foul

AOC Parody Twitter (snopes.com)

May 8, 2019 By Meghan Sackman

Twitter has deactivated the account “@AOCpress” that was created to post satirical tweets pertaining to Congress Member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

The account, which had 85,000 followers, was deactivated on Monday, along with the account of its creator Mike Morrison, @OfficeOfMike, according to conservative publication Human Events.

Morrison told Human Events that he thought Twitter’s decision to suspend the account was politically motivated.

“We’ve had tweets with over 30,000 likes on them, so I think Twitter decided it was time for [the account] to go,’ Morrison told the publication. “They didn’t like how popular an account created by their political opposition had become.”

Twitter blocked the parody account for its failure to comply with a rule listed on its site.

“You may not register or create fake and misleading accounts,” Twitter’s rule page states. “While you may use Twitter pseudonymously or as a parody, commentary, or fan account, you may not use misleading account information in order to engage in spamming, abusive, or disruptive behavior, including attempts to manipulate the conversations on Twitter.”

Morrison said the account did not break any rules because Twitter allows “parody” or “fan” accounts.

However, according to Twitter rules, it has to be made very clear in the bio and name that the account is unaffiliated with the target “ in a way that can be understood by the intended audience.”

While the account did expressly say “parody,” it also included the phrase “official press releases for AOC” in the bio as well and used AOC’s official twitter picture.

The account did create confusion. For instance, a number of people believed that AOC called an Alabama woman who joined ISIS a hero after a parody tweet.

A spokesperson from the Congress Member’s Office said she had nothing to do with the removal of the account from Twitter.

“We didn’t have anything to do with the account being taken down by Twitter,” spokesperson Corbin Trent said. “We treat social media as an open space for all views.”

Do you even know her credentials her degree, how she graduated cum laude from Boston university? How she won awards in stem? Have you ever herd of the term tactical framing ? If not I suggest you look it up because that is how the media portrays her, and people like you gobble it up. I am not attacking you I’m just trying to stop the spread of ignorance, we owe it to the human race.

Sooooo much attention!
Alexandria must be getting under your skin,
my dear right-wing really conservative friends.
Good.
You should instead be much more worried & concerned about someone like Trump,
who is degrading both the Republican Party, the Constitution – and the Presidency.
Having said that, I am all for free speech.
After all. people died & risked their lives so that we might enjoy that right
( …but not Commandr-in-Chief Bone Spurs of course).
So just take out the words “official” and “personal” and the official twitter photo
–and stop whining.

Yeah she’s full of herself.

You’d never vote for the billionaire narcissist that lives in a golden tower with his name on it right? Otherwise you’d be a giant hypocrite…

Interesting

I want to be neutral when I say this, but I feel like if you have a twitter name that seems more like the real deal than it’s hard to descifre factual information.

Twitter should have just warned the account holders and not deactivated their accounts. They should have called themselves ‘Fake AOC’ or something not ‘AOC Press’.

This is a reach as far as newsworthiness on a website dedicated to news about Astoria.

the moderators and authors are infatuated with her. It would be great if they reported on how the “Districts” she represents are havens for criminal gangs-complete with all of the accoutrements that go along with their existence-murder, rapes, extortion, drugs, prostitution, intimidation. But they won’t

How did AOC cause murder, rapes, extortion, drugs, prostitution, intimidation?

Or did your dementia just make you forget what post you’re one?

Crime in nyc has been at record lows before AOC went into office. And nyc is beautiful I’m born and raised here and I love this city and the people in it, including you Pat Macnamara! I don’t have to agree with what you say but defend your right to say it. Plus your comments as vile as they are sometimes spark debate. So do your thing my man but do a little research it will help your point of view.

Fire inspectors from the Special Investigation Unit received a complaint of illegal occupancy at a home just south of LaGuardia Airport at 23-57 89th St. They discovered 68 propane cylinders, which they seized along with five food trucks and a box truck parked on the property last week. The inspectors also found illegal single-room-occupancy in the home’s cellar.
