Artichoke Basille’s Pizza, a high-end pizzeria with several locations in New York, is about to open Astoria.

The pizzeria will be taking over the space that was previously occupied by Frankie’s Pizza, which had been at that 22-56 31 Street location for 50 years.

An employee for Artichoke Pizza said the owners aim to open the establishment by the beginning of 2015.

Artichoke Basille’s Pizza was founded by Francis Garcis and Sal Basille in 2008 when they opened in the East Village. Since then, they have added another five pizzerias in locations such as Chelsea, Greenwich Village and LaGuardia Airport.

The Astoria pizzeria will be their seventh restaurant.

The pizzeria serves items such as artichoke pizza, crab pizza, vodka pizza, pizza wedges, calzone, stuffed artichokes and garlic sticks.

Alba’s pizza was in the same tier of quality as Frankie’s Pizza… tasteless garbage. I never understood how people went to Alba’s. Maybe because they have beer on draft?

I used to live on Ditmars and 38th St. ( one block away) and over the years I would relunctantly give them “another try” – and always the pizza was so effing tasteless. The ironic part is that they have signature pizza’s that come with LOADS of toppings, perhaps because of the subpar quality of those topping, but the end result is a $25-$30 pie with no flavor. Grano’s on Ditmar’s and 38th is a much better option if you’re in that particular corner of Astoria.

We don’t need more places that serve a $12+ single serve pizza. We could use more by the slice places. Frankie’s was good (not great) but it was open late and (yeah they’d overcharge) you could get a slice coming back from the bar at 3am.

That’s the problem with pizza in Astoria. Polito’s Pizza is bland and over priced. I’m not for Artichoke moving to Astoria especially when they took over a mom a pop shop but we really need a good NY slice place.

Thats a stupid comment. Did you EVER eat at Frankie’s Pizza? The pizza was so tasteless, and it wasn’t like a “dollar slice”, they charged WAY to much for the garbage they sold. I tried many different types of slices from Frankie’s Pizza over many many years, and it was always the same flavorless fare. Artichoke Pizza is great quality pizza, so what if they happen to have other locations, they aren’t a humanless billion dollar corporation, they happen to have have a couple of other places, but not so many that the pizza quality isn’t being monitored by the owners. I’ve been a fan of Artichoke Pizza for years since I work in the city, and it is about time Astoria had some late night available high quality pizza.
