Fireworks display in Astoria: TONIGHT

June 24, 2013 By Christian Murray

Astoria has a habit of celebrating the Fourth of July a little earlier than the rest of the country.

The neighborhood typically holds its annual celebration in Astoria Park a week before July 4, an event that includes a spectacular fireworks display high above the East River and the park.

This year’s event kicks off tonight—June 24—at 7:30 pm in Astoria Park. It will also feature a performance by the Queens Symphony Orchestra on the great lawn, which is near Shore Boulevard between the Hell Gate Bridge and the Astoria Park Pool.

The event is being organized by the Central Astoria Local Development Coalition.

As we look to the future, it’s clear that neighborhood rezoning offers a more comprehensive and beneficial approach compared to individual rezoning requests for specific projects. Locally, in Community District 1 in Queens, OANA has been advocating for such a rezoning of the general area south of Broadway in Astoria to Dutch Kills.
