A Laundromat on Broadway caught fire early Monday, taking 60 firefighters about an hour to bring the flames under control, according to the FDNY.

The FDNY received a call about a fire at Old Neighbors Laundry, between 34th and 35th Streets on Broadway, around 5 a.m. They responded with 12 units, or about 60 firefighters, and the fire was under control by around 6 a.m.

The fire began in the rear bathroom of the Laundromat, though the cause is still under investigation by the FDNY Fire Marshals, according to an FDNY spokesperson.

There is extensive damage to the building, according to the FDNY spokesperson, though he did not go in to further detail.

Calls to the Laundromat for comment went unanswered.

The phone is not working. We were told that the fire began from the outdoor area in the back of the store, not inside. Caused is still not known. May have been a discarded cigarette from a neighbor. But, still not certain. My name is Italia, owner and you may reach my husband, Nick at 516 644-1274. We are still waiting for the insurance company to assess the damage. I myself am reviewing receipts to determine losses. Papers and contents only suffered water damage.
