A man was robbed at gunpoint last month in a small park in Astoria and now police are looking for the suspect.
On Aug. 16 at 2:30 p.m., a 24-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk near Steinway Street and 31st Avenue when another man approached him. The two talked and walked together to Sean’s Place Park on 38th Street, when the second man suddenly brandished a handgun and demanded the 24-year-old victim’s property, police said.
The victim handed over $84 and his LG cell phone valued at $200 and the unknown man fled with both to Steinway Street where he made a speedy getaway on a bike, according to cops.
The NYPD has released the included video of the suspect.
Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM, or on Twitter @NYPDTips.

What will con stat record this as?? harassment coupled with a larceny. Thankfully our Socialist mayor and his minions will blame society. Not this mutt
Why limit their power?
That park has been a drug location for many years. I remember delivering the Daily News early in the morning during the late 80’s as a 14 year old kid and I would find wayward nickel bags of pot in the curb. Back then, before cell phones and before Mayor Giuliani, most drug business was conducted in “spots.” 38th street park was a “spot.” The dealer would stash his inventory in a brown paper bag and place it under a parked car. When a customer would drive up, they would reach into the bag to retrieve the order and, invariably throughout the night, a nickel bag or two would fall out of the brown paper bag for me to find the next morning. It was a really seedy park back then before it was renovated and named Sean’s Place after a dead cop. It was a hangout park for lowlifes; there were no families visiting. And it had a quick getaway because there was an exit into the municipal parking lot on Steinway.
Too many criminals are walking around Astoria carrying illegal guns. We need to bring back stop and frisk
This is happening to often. We all need to come together and talk. Lets put our differences aside and stop blaming others for the atmosphere that we created.
If only there was a law that would stop and deter bad guys from carrying illegal guns!!!!
Except that law was tested to see if it actually did deter crime and it turns out it unequivocally didn’t. It’s sad when “common sense” can’t hold up to scrutiny. But thanks for the worthless comment.
You are looking at planted statistics…the fact that the cops could actually stop and frisk you was a huge deterrent of crime especially in Astoria…look at where you’re at and stop throwing around useless studies…if someone pulled a gun on you near a playground I’m sure you wouldn’t feel like this..its easy to mock something based on some “study” or to prove that you’re some diehard liberal…but take it fro. Am NYC born and bred liberal…the cops need to have the right to use their judgement and potentially recover a firearm that may otherwise be us ed d to kill someone…I was stopped and frisked my entire growing up here and the only time I would get in trouble or taken in n was if I had something illegal one me…that’s how it worked for everyone..no matter your color or ethnicity…the politicians use newcomers to the city who dont understand our hoods, to pass frivolous legislation that is not needed nor welcomed by anyone with common sense…dont bash what you do not know…stop and frisk saved countless police and civilian lives and pretty much brought an end to the crack epidemic that almost destroyed every single neighborhood in nyc
That which is presented without evidence can be dismissed without it.
Police should be able to search anyone, for no reason, at all times. I’m glad you’re a fellow socialist who doesn’t care about the 4th amendment.
Yes! We need to bring back stop and frisk.
All the thumbs down are from people who probably should be in rehab
This is sick. In broad daylight!!! We take our child to that park all the time. Quality of life has gone way down I’m Astoria. Check the projects. I second that.
The two mem were talking together . There more to this story that meets the eye
“Quality of life has gone way down I’m Astoria” How profound.
Drug deals also happen in that park. Time to find a new one for your kid.
Crime in Astoria is increasing because of big bird’s pro criminal laws
Crime has nothing to do with one politician. It’s illegal to rob people under all mayors. Astoria is very safe . But all these people from Manhattan bring their problems with them
Oh yeah, it has nothing to do with the tone at the top? It’s enough for something to be written down for it to be followed?
I personally knew street criminals when Giuliani was mayor. I don’t think criminals really care that DeBozo is on their side. You sound out of touch and in tuned to Fox News.
Check the projects.
Check the trailer parks
Drug deal gone bad. Shocking.
Bring Back Stop and Frisk!!!
Yes please
I second that
