Raven’s Head Public House features free comedy, with event scheduled Wednesday

Free laughs are on tap at the Raven’s Head Public House.

Samantha Bednarz, a comedian and comedy promoter, began hosting a monthly comedy show, called Technical Difficulties, at the 38-04 Broadway pub in June. Tomorrow night, the pub will be part of a citywide comedy festival.

Bednarz has had turnouts of about 25 people since she launched the comedy show. She hopes to keep it going, she said, as the exposure benefits local comics as well as the bar.

Bednarz, who holds the show on the second Wednesday every month, said Raven’s Head is a good place for comedy since it has the space to hold a good crowd.

“There are not a lot of comedy shows in Astoria,” she said, yet people want to see it. She is hoping that as more people learn about “Technical Difficulties” attendance will grow.

Tomorrow, the show will be part of the “Free Stand Up Festival,” a citywide event that she hopes will draw a larger crowd to the Raven’s Head.

“Being in the festival should help us gain exposure,” she said.

The festival is taking place throughout New York City (from September 8th through the 12th), where comedians will be performing at venues throughout the 5 boroughs.

The headline acts at Raven’s Head Wednesday night (7:00pm) will be Dan Soder, who has been featured on Conan and Comedy Central, as well as Nick Turner who has appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers.

Raven’s Head will be the only Queens location represented in the festival.
