The Food Emporium is coming to Astoria, taking the place of the former C-Town supermarket on Broadway.

The new grocery store will replace C-Town, which closed last year as part of an expansion of the building. The developer is adding an additional four stories with 64 apartments to the property.

A new sign was added to the fence surrounding the property at 29-10 Broadway announcing the incoming supermarket, which will open sometime in 2017.

According to the sign, the former C-Town owners will operate the new Food Emporium. The C-Town Facebook, which had been dormant since the supermarket closed, updated its profile picture with a picture of the sign, with the caption “We are coming back as a Food Emporium! Same family and familiar faces.”

Once finished, the new development will be five stories, or 63 feet, tall and will contain 64 apartments in addition to the new store. It will contain 44,060 square feet of residential space and 15,940 square feet of retail space.

It will also contain a 32-spot parking garage underneath the building, and a recreation space and laundry room on the second floor for residents to use.

In addition to the sign announcing the new grocery store and plans for the site, there is a banner on the fence advertising 7,100 square feet of available retail space.

Jestam Realty LLC, the developer of the site, did not return request for comment on whether the grocery store will take up all 15,940 square feet of retail space, or if there would also be another storefront in the building, though the application filed with the Department of Buildings indicated that there would be two separate retail spaces.

O Tavernaris

Trader Joe’s stinks. I bought butter once there which had mold, the milk was bad and the fruits were rotten. Its great to have a neighborhood mainstay back.
