Woman fatally struck in Thursday morning collision with MTA bus in Astoria

Ditmars Blvd. and 31st St. Via Google Maps

A woman has died after being struck by an MTA bus at the intersection of 31st Street and Ditmars Boulevard in Astoria on Thursday, Jan. 2.

The woman, who was approximately 50-60 years of age, was struck while crossing southbound on Ditmars Boulevard and 31st Street at approximately 8:06 a.m. and was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst, where she was pronounced dead.

The 48-year-old male bus driver, who had been traveling eastbound along Ditmars Boulevard, remained at the scene.

No arrests were made and investigations by the NYPD Highway District Collision Investigation Squad remain ongoing.

The MTA has not yet responded to a request for comment. This is a developing story.

So sad. The FDNY arrived after minimally 15 minutes! I was at the scene. There was one white female holding the Chinese lady’s hand and prayed. At least she left this world at peace.

How many more deaths until something changes? Why we need 2 direction avenues and left turns everywhere? Most likely, nobody is to blame but the traffic situation! Please implement traffic reduction measures. Prioritize pedestrians

I think she died as soon as she was hit. I happened to be at the scene like a minute later and someone was giving her first aid by pushing agains her chest, but she was unresponsive. She was bleeding from her ear and it didn’t look good. I’m sorry she didn’t make it. RIP

Why did they transport her to Brooklyn whenMt. Sinai is right there. Maybe they could of saved her by taking her to a closer hospital.

Astoria doctor sentenced to more than two decades in prison for rape and sexual abuse: DA

An Astoria doctor was sentenced to 24 years in prison on Thursday in Queens Supreme Court for raping unconscious acquaintances and sexually abusing hospital patients.

Dr. Zhi Alan Cheng, 35, of Broadway, pleaded guilty on June 30 to four counts of rape in the first degree and three counts of sexual abuse in the first degree in satisfaction of the consolidated indictments against him. He additionally entered an Alford plea to one count of sexual abuse. The defendant — a former gastroenterologist at New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital — recorded the abuse of his unconscious victims with his cell phone in both his Astoria apartment and at the hospital.
