Two teenagers were stabbed during a bloody confrontation with a group of men on Monday evening in the Steinway section of Astoria.

The young men were walking at the intersection of 21st Avenue and 75th Street, two blocks north of St. Michael’s Cemetery, at around 6:45 p.m. when they began to argue with a group of strangers.

Police from the 114th Precinct in Astoria reported that the dispute escalated into violence when one of the men pulled out a knife and stabbed the 16-year-old in his right leg and then stabbed the 18-year-old victim once in his back before the assailants fled the scene in an unknown direction.

EMS responded to the location and rushed the teens to Elmhurst Hospital, where they were listed in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries, according to an NYPD spokeswoman, who added that there have been no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at crimestoppers.nypdonline.org, or on X (the platform formerly known as Twitter) @NYPDTips. All calls and messages are kept confidential.

Through Apr. 21, the 114th Precinct has reported 170 assaults so far in 2024, 28 more than the 142 reported at the same point last year, an increase of 19.7%, according to the most recent CompStat report.
