Jan. 22, 2016 Staff Report

Police are searching for two men who attempted to steal ice cream from a Ditmars Boulevard CVS Pharmacy and then beat up an employee who confronted them.

The two males entered the CVS at 7:13 p.m. on Jan. 3. They attempted to steal pints of ice cream by stuffing them into a backpack, police said.

When a female employee confronted the two males, they assaulted her and fled the location on foot, empty handed, according to the NYPD.

Police describe the first individual as a black male, 18- to 20-years-old, 5 feet 10 inches and 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a light blue hooded sweater, a dark colored coat with a fur-lined hood and dark colored pants.

The second individual is described as a black male, 18- to 20-years-old, 5 feet 10 inches and 160lbs. He was last seen wearing a dark colored jacket, dark colored pants and light colored book bag.

Police listed the CVS address as 30-01 Ditmars Blvd., apparently mistakenly referring to the CVS at 31-01 Ditmars Blvd.

A video of the suspects has been released and police are asking anyone with information to call 1-800-577-TIPS.

With the homeless shelter and the increase in restaurants and bars I have been watching my back on Ditmars more often. Yes, its just ice cream but it worries me that they went to point of beating up the employee. I can see some teens stealing ice cream for the thrill and then running away if they get caught but not beating someone up over it. So hard to distinguish people who are up to no good so we all need to stay alert.

Most big retailers have a policy of not interfering with criminals in the act of stealing. I hope the assaulted employee doesn’t get fired too.

Yes that policy is well known in the low income housing hoods and stores like CVS are constant target for shoplifters.

Try looking for them in the shelter at Westway motel.. Ever since its been a shelter there has been a numerous amount of crime in ASTORIA. There should be rules and consequences for certain behaviors in and around the shelter. There should be a curfew for them. We are paying for them, therefore they should have rules and fear that they can’t get away with whatever they want to do!!!

Definitely thank Westway and our lovely politicians for allowing our community to become what it has become. Brave Constantinides, job well done. Thanks SImotas for helping your community. Thank you for allowing Westway to become a permanent shelter until 2019. Let’s see what else you will do to help the area.

I’m sure they came from one of the closer housing projects..Astoria Houses or Ravenswood would be a more logical bet as history has shown. At one time statistical information was released on the zip codes of the home addresses people arrested and incarcerated.

I agree..no teens are going to go out of there way just to visit CVS and steal some ice cream. They must live near…unless you’re on your way to Astoria Park there are very little things for teens to do on Ditmars.

What a bunch of losers, stealing ice cream and assaulting a female. Hopefully they choke on the ice cream or get sick from it. These two mutts deserve the worse.

The New York City Council passed a landmark bill on Wednesday, aiming to relieve renters of paying hefty broker fees — a cost that will now fall on the party who hires the listing agent. Known as the FARE Act (Fairness in Apartment Rentals), the legislation passed with a veto-proof majority of 42-8, despite opposition from Republicans and conservative Democrats.
