Suspect Armed With Box Cutter Robbed Three Bodegas in Northwest Queens: NYPD

Police are looking for a man involved in at least three robberies at bodegas in northwest Queens this month.

The suspect brandished a box cutter in all three incidents and stole a total of nearly $3,000 from the stores.

He first hit NY China Market, an Elmhurst bodega/ convenience store located at 91-24 Corona Ave., on Wednesday, April 7 at 9:30 p.m. He approached a 31-year-old male employee with a box cutter and demanded money. He ran off with approximately $1,000, police said.

Days later, on Saturday, April 10, the same man allegedly walked into a bodega called New Woodside Grocery, located at 41-70 74th St. in Elmhurst, around 10 p.m. He brandished a box cutter and demanded money from a 37-year-old male employee, police said. He forcibly took $760 from the victim and fled.

Then on Monday, April 12, the suspect walked behind the counter of a bodega at 103-01 Astoria Blvd. in East Elmhurst at around 9:15 p.m. He threatened a 25-year-old female employee with a box cutter and forcibly removed about $1,200 and lock boxes from the store before running off, police said.

None of the employees were injured in the three incidents, police said.

For the second time in four months, FDNY fire inspectors averted a potential catastrophe in East Elmhurst after finding stockpiles of illegally stored propane tanks in the residential neighborhood.

Fire inspectors from the Special Investigation Unit received a complaint of illegal occupancy at a home just south of LaGuardia Airport at 23-57 89th St. They discovered 68 propane cylinders, which they seized along with five food trucks and a box truck parked on the property last week. The number of grand larcenies across Queens was down during the 28-day period from March 18 to April 14, compared to the same period of time last year, according to the latest crime stats released by the NYPD Monday. At the same time, rapes and robberies decreased significantly in northern and southern Queens, respectively.
