Dozens of Santas are going to be lining the streets of Sunnyside this Saturday as they participate in the neighborhood’s annual Santathon.
The popular crawl makes a return this year after being canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic.
Nine local bars are participating in the Dec. 11 crawl where pints will be discounted with the purchase of a wristband. The crawl begins at 3 p.m. and continues “until late.”
Wristbands for the event cost $10 and are now available for purchase at any of the participating bars. The wristbands will get bar-hoppers drink specials and deals. Event organizers encourage attendees to purchase and pick up their wristbands before Saturday.
Proceeds from the sale of wristbands will go to buy toys and warm clothing for children in need this holiday season. The items will be delivered to non-profits such as the Floating Hospital and Hour Children in Long Island City. A portion of the funds will also go to support local food pantries.
The crawl, now in its tenth year, is organized by Sunnyside’s Boulevard Bars, a group that represents several local bars.
Organizers raised funds last year via a GoFundMe page since the event was canceled. Around $8,500 was generated, shattering the $5,000 that was raised from the 2019 crawl.
Residents who cannot make the Santathon this year can make a financial donation via a new GoFundMe page by clicking here.
