A subway train smashed into a Citi Bike that had been thrown onto the tracks at the Steinway Street station in Astoria Sunday night, police said.

A man, who was part of a group of four men and one woman, allegedly threw the bike from street level onto the mezzanine—and then onto the tracks, according to police. The incident took place at around 10:15 p.m.

A southbound R Train struck the bike causing the emergency brakes to engage and damage to the train. The incident was caught on tape by a witness.

Police say that the incident put passengers on the train at risk, as well as those people waiting on the platform.

The police have released photos of the suspect—as well as members of the group—wanted for questioning. Cops are treating the incident as a case of reckless endangerment.

Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
