A chain of Queens-based homegoods stores is planning its expansion into Brooklyn with a new store in Greenpoint.

Lockwood, a popular shop with three locations in Astoria and one in Jackson Heights, will open their doors on Sept. 1 at 98 Greenpoint Avenue.

Owner Mackenzi Farquer said they will be bringing their “greatest hits” of all of their Lockwood locations, including their candles, cards, stationary, homewares, kids toys, clothing and accessories.

“We want to open with our best foot forward,” Farquer said during an Instagram live video announcing the new store.

According to Farquer, she had initially tried to set up shop in Long Island City late last year, but after news of Amazon’s then-planned new headquarters broke, she said landlords became unwilling to rent to her, wanting to hold out for higher-paying tenants.

She then saw an empty retail space in Greenpoint and decided to take the leap.

“Greenpoint has been on my list for a long time,” Farquer said. “Something fell into my lap and I found these really friendly landlords who I’m really happy to be working with and as a small business owner, having landlords that are friendly and easy to work with and just genuinely kind business people can make or break your business.”

Farquer says both she and her staff are extremely excited to branch out and open the Greenpoint store.

This looks like a wonderful store and Sunnyside would be a great place for your next expansion! There are plenty of empty storefronts around the neighborhood! Best of luck!

The inspectors also found illegal single-room-occupancy in the home’s cellar.
