Police Searching for Man Tied to a String of Break-Ins in Astoria

March 10, 2021 By Allie Griffin

Police are searching for a man wanted for a string of break-ins and burglaries in Astoria.

The suspect broke into five apartment buildings last week and ran off with cash and various items of value, police said.

He first broke into an apartment building near 33rd Street and 28th Avenue at 3:30 p.m. Monday by prying open the lobby door. He took off with a package that contained $100 worth of beard grooming products, police said.

About a half hour later, the man walked into a building near 31st Street and 28th Avenue and entered an apartment through a side door. He stole $100 in CBD oil and a Stashlogix bag valued at $60, police said.

Then at 5:45 p.m., the suspect got inside an apartment building in the vicinity of 29th Street and 31st Avenue and removed a $2,200 rent check a tenant had left for the landlord in front of an apartment door. The tenant subsequently cancelled the check, police said.

Two days later, the man hit two more apartment buildings in the neighborhood.

He pried open the lobby door of a building near 18th Street and 27th Avenue just before 1 p.m. Wednesday, police said. Once inside, the man tried to enter several apartments, but failed and fled empty-handed.

Then at 4 p.m. he entered a building near 31st Drive and 23rd Street. He got inside one apartment, where he took $150 in cash and then fled, police said.

Anyone with information in regard to these crimes is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). Make that 6 burglaries at least. On Wednesday, March 3 at 3:45pm he allegedly burglarized an apartment in the vicinity of 31st Avenue and 21st Street. He was also seen walking eastward along 31st Avenue between 21st & Crescent Streets and stopping at many buildings on both sides of the street. In our building’s video we can see the same logo on his knit cap and same coat as in the video above.
