Building permits have been filed for two, eight-story residential buildings on the same block near Socrates Sculpture Park in Astoria.
The plans call for an 84-foot-tall structure on a site at 31-61 Vernon Boulevard and a second 84-foot-tall structure on a site at 11-26 31st Drive, according to documents filed by the Department of Buildings on Aug. 25. Both buildings will stand next to each other.
The building on Vernon Boulevard will include 51 residential units. There will be three units on the first floor; seven units on each floor from 2 through 7; and six units on the eighth floor.
The structure will be 40,719 square foot and will have a laundry room as well as an indoor and outdoor recreation space.
The building on 31st Drive will also contain 51 residential units. There will be two units on the first floor and seven units on each floor from 2 through 8.
It will be slightly smaller in size, at 36,000 square feet.
Demolition permits were filed last year and a completion date is unknown.
Meshulem Twersky (under the 31-61 Vernon Blvd LLC) is listed as the owner behind both applications while S. Wieder Architect is listed as the architect for the buildings.

Meshulem sounds like an immigrant from Eastern Europe. As they all do, how much did he pay the building department and every other city agency/worker to do this? Queens doesn’t need another residential building!!! We have enough people living here to make another borough. We need stores and businesses – THAT’S WHAT BUILT THIS CITY!
