A pedestrian is dead after he was struck by a BMW driver on the Grand Central Parkway in Astoria Heights Monday.

The victim, 44, was hit by a BMW X5 – a mid-sized SUV – as he attempted to cross the thoroughfare at around 9:10 p.m., according to police.

The driver, 35, was traveling eastbound in the left lane of the Grand Central Parkway and approaching the pedestrian overpass at 73rd Street when he plowed into the victim.

Police said the victim was walking from south to north along the parkway and not using the designated pedestrian overpass when the BMW slammed into him.

When police arrived on the scene, they found the victim lying on the roadway with trauma to his body. He was unconscious and unresponsive, police said.

The victim was transported by EMS NYC Health & Hospitals/Elmhurst where he was pronounced dead.

The BMW driver remained on the scene. There have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.

The identity of the victim has not been released pending family notification.
