Organic Eatery gets a ‘Fresh Start’ after extensive renovations

Fresh start

Dec. 3, 2014 By Michael Florio

Fresh Start Organic Eatery & Market, located at 29-13 23rd Ave, has reopened after closing late September for renovations.

Stella Leandrou, who owns the store with Ellie Zoumberakis, said the renovations included putting in an antique-looking ceiling, changing the flooring, painting the walls, putting in new shelves and rearranging the store itself.

The overhaul has also given the owners time to investigate and expand their food selection.

The store will now offer natural foods in additional to organic foods and there will be more of an emphasis on buying produce from local farmers.

The store had an official reopening yesterday although its doors were open last week.

“There are a lot of changes to the appearance of the store,” Leandrou said. “People are coming in and getting excited.”

Leandrou said that she and Zoumberakis had considered closing the store, which opened in 2004. However, she said, the customers inspired them to stay open and renovate.

“We love this location,” she said. “We love our customers…and the neighborhood is undergoing some positive changes.”
