NYPD: Man Threatens Subway Rider with Knife at Broadway N/W Station

Suspect (NYPD)

Feb. 9, 2018 By Tara Law

The police are searching for a man who allegedly threatened a subway rider with a knife at the Broadway N/W station in Astoria on Jan. 27.

The victim, a 43-year-old man, spotted the assailant urinating on the platform at around 2:18 p.m., police say. He asked the suspect what he was doing and took a picture of him. The assailant took out a knife and threatened him.

The victim tried to get away, but the suspect followed him briefly before leaving the station.

The suspect is described as a 6 feet tall Hispanic man in his 50s. He was last seen wearing a brown coat, a green shirt, a gray sweater, blue slacks and brown shoes.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).

The guy is in his 50’s. Guys that age are prone to Prostate problems. If he had no choice, he had no choice. If he pissed in his pants in public, he’d Still be pissing in public… It is just a matter of whether he was doing it in his pants, or not. I’d opt for outside my pants, too.

I cant believe people are siding with the suspect after he chased someone with a knife for taking a pic of him urinating on such a busy platform where there are woman and children constantly around. If he has a medical condition and can not hold is pee then maybe someone can offer him Depend underwear while he is booked and awaits his hearing.

that’s a separate issue. he shouldn’t of lost it and pulled knife, but he was probably super annoyed that somebody with too much time on their hands won’t MYOB. temporary insanity defense.

He chased someone with a knife and that is why the cops are after him..Everything else is irrelevant! So if someone pees on your front doorstep offer them a tissue to wipe or some toilet paper for a bowel movement if you do not mind and care so much about a them having some medical condition.

I know that it’s illegal but what if it’s an emergency? Is he supposed to just pee in his pants or hold it until he gets a urinary tract infection? What does the law say about that? Although my man should of done it at a more concealed place, but maybe he has been holding it for hours and just couldn’t hold it anymore? If a guy has seizure on the subway and loses control of his bowels, do you then take photos and send them to the police? Have some sympathy for other people’s suffering!

I can commiserate because as a man i have been in similar situations…the knife pulling part was of course wrong, but i would of yelled at the photographer to MYOB. If you think this way, karen et al, then next time you have a medical emergency and loses control, and some cold hearted fool report you for a crime, then think back on your posts here.

If he had the time to pull out a knife and follow the victim before leaving the station I doubt it was that much of an emergency! Also, this occurred at the Broadway and 31 street station where there are numerous eateries and cafes outside of the station. Not some area with nothing around. He could of went to Starbucks or other places! And the video of him is on the sidewalk casually walking around, well dressed with a shopping bag not some homeless person without out a place to relive themselves. We live in a camera phone world and if people do not like such consequences then they should watch their behaviors in public and certainly not chase people with knives because there are ticked off that someone caught them exposing themselves in public.

Of course, why not hold it until you finish sipping on your 5-dollar latté.

@Tora, duhhh, obviously he chased the guy around after he partially relieved himself. Like I said, the only possible justification for the public urination was if it was a real EMERGENCY, i.e. he could no longer hold it without hurting his bladder. we just don’t know, but you and others just assumed that he was doing it for fun or something.

If you piss in your pants in public, you are Still pissing in public. It is just a matter of whether you are doing it in your pants, or not.

Hey hipsters,
In NY we’re taught to mind our own business. So-called victim is lucky he didn’t get peed on.

The guy urinating wasn’t minding his own business. He was quite literally urinating on everyone’s train.

Leave people alone when they are urinating… You don’t know what kind of Medical conditions they have. I’m sure they wish they didn’t have to urinate in public. This is just an Excuse for cops to give people tickets for urinating.

These disgusting behaviors are happening throughout Astoria and they are illegal. The subway stations around here need to be updated with bathrooms! People need to get involved and demand bathrooms on subways platforms in Astoria now that they are renovating them.

That would be incredibly expensive to build & to maintain. I can’t recall ever needing a bathroom during my commute; I go before I leave for the subway. Let the MTA focus on service and not amenities.

You are a smug person who may yet get diabetes, kidney disease or even take meds for blood pressure that sometimes make it excruciatingly painful and the meds give no warning. Why don’t you realize that other people do have medical issues and the lack of bathrooms at the stations makes this an issue with the delays we ALWAYS have. I tis wonderful you don’t have an issue. Try considering all of the people who do! you probably think elevators are overkill for disabled people because you can walk up stairs – what a self righteous jerk.

Mickey- You’re absolutely right. A great man once said don’t judge a man until you walked a mike in his shoes. There are quite a few self righteous and self absorbed blowhards posting to this stream.

It’s good to see that the world does have sensible people like Gary Marino, Mickey, and Ralph. I don’t think any normal person WANTS to urinate in public. The dude had an emergency, don’t make such a big deal out of it. However, the knife pulling was a different story…

I’m not quite sure Who the “victim ” is, in this case… Why did he take a picture of the guy urinating? What is he? Some kind of Freak?

To give it to the proper authorities. In the same way, when someone does not pick up dog poop. At least, that what I was asked when i called to complain. They ask for video or pics of the person breaking the law.

Agreed – what kind of fake action hero who does not work for the NYPD needs to tell a guy their business in broad daylight. Go home and read a book.

It’s frustrating when you see someone flagrantly breaking the law & there’re no cops around and nothing that can be done. He probably took the picture in the hopes that the urinator would be ashamed of his behavior and stop doing what he was doing. It’s strange how your mind works; to me, this was a citizen feeling helpless while someone else demonstrated a total disregard for decency & civilized behavior.

Maybe the guy has a Medical condition… He’s in his 50’s. Or maybe he had too much to drink.. Are you a Doctor?

“Evidence”? Evidence that the guy had to PISS?! That is NOT a Crime. He was in his 50’s! Maybe he has Prostate problems! I don’t carry a knife, If somebody harasses me while I’m taking a piss, he’s going to get a piece of my mind. People should mind their business.

Urinating in public, pulling out a knife and chasing someone to (perhaps) hurt them is against the law. It is not against the law to take a pic of a person in public when they are breaking the law. And i hope the suspect is caught.

Nowadays, many people take photos when something against the law is happening. Cops are even now wearing body cameras when making an arrest or a stop because bystanders were taking pics and video of them sometimes doing something wrong.

“The assailant took out a knife and threatened him. The victim tried to get away, but the suspect followed him briefly…” This changes everything and now the suspect will most likely face bigger charges than just a urinating in public fine. If it was just a person urinating on the train which happens all the time the police would not sending out a video of him! The victim did the right thing.

Oh what about all the men we hear about touching and or exposing themselves in public? What if he was urinating in front of a woman? Would you blame a woman for taking a pic? Do you just feel this way because the victim who took the pic was a man?

City Council passes bill shifting broker fee burden to landlords, sparking backlash from real estate industry and key critics

Nov. 14, 2024 By Ethan Stark-Miller and QNS News Team

The New York City Council passed a landmark bill on Wednesday, aiming to relieve renters of paying hefty broker fees — a cost that will now fall on the party who hires the listing agent. Known as the FARE Act (Fairness in Apartment Rentals), the legislation passed with a veto-proof majority of 42-8, despite opposition from Republicans and conservative Democrats.
