NYPD: 11-year-old girl sexually assaulted by cabbie in Astoria Sunday

Dec. 13, 2016 By Hannah Wulkan

Police are searching for the driver of a green taxi who allegedly grabbed and sexually assaulted an 11-year-old girl in Astoria this weekend.

According to published reports, the girl ran away from her Ridgewood house around 1 a.m. Sunday morning to visit her cousin. She got lost and wound up at the Woodside-61st street 7 train station.

Hours later, a green cab pulled up next to her while she was walking near 30th Avenue and 30th Street, and the driver allegedly offered her a ride, according to police. When she declined, he forced her in to the front seat of the car and grabbed her breasts..

Police said that the girl fled the cab when it stopped at a red light on 31st Drive near 12th Street, where she called 911 at around 4:20 am.

The victim was later taken to Elmhurst Hospital for evaluation, according to police.

The investigation in to the assault is ongoing, and police are searching for a 40-year-old Indian or Hispanic man standing about 5-foot-8 with a medium build.

The suspect had messy black hair and brown eyes was wearing black jeans, a gray sweater and black Sketchers sneakers, according to the NY Daily News.

Wtf is wrong with you people

Brown male. Fucking morons how many different nationalities have brown males?
At least Spanish or Indian narrows down the search for the dirtbag that’s all it should be about.

Sexual Assault unlike you- does not discriminate between race, class, or nationality. Sexual assaults against children happen everywhere. Please take your uninformed opinion elsewhere. I’m horrified that a child was assaulted in my neighborhood- I’m also horrified when descriptions don’t serve the community as a whole. I would like to know that the description is brown male- approximate weight, approximate height. Descriptions matter. The kid is not at fault- but the police owe it to the community to give information that better informs.

The final point is the description should have said a brown male. When they say white they don’t say Italian or Greek. When they say black that don’t say Cambodian or Nigerian. So why did they say specifically Spanish or Indian? Brown would have been sufficient. Being a while male of Italian and Greek descent I find this very wrong.

So if someone looks Asian- one should say Asian. I am sure you can’t tell the difference by just at looking if someone is Chinese, Korean, or Japanese. If someone is brown- in Queens- there are so many places they could be from. It’s a disservice to the community to have a sexually assaulting perp be out there and without an accurate description. This has nothing to do with Trump and everything to do with communicating clearly.

You are sad. A child is assaulted and a insufficient description is given of a perp- and your goal is to shout about a wall. You really should consider moving to a part of the country who would celebrate your kind. NYC is not your town.

I cannot believe that they said two specific nationalities. This is unbelievable. To say specifically spanish or indian is very disappointing.

I agree, no one said they don’t care about what actually happened but why specifically say Spanish or Indian. The person who took the complaint should have the common sense to not specifically say a nationality. Brown skin would have worked perfectly. To say just two specific types such as Spanish or Indian is very wrong.

Why just hispanic or Indian? Couldnt it have been a Bangladeshi or Pakistani too? How did you guys come to a conclusion of person being of certain nationality?

Really, is that what you focused on. The description given by an 11 year old girl. No matter what the POS is, he tried to rape an 11 year old, but I guess that’s not important to you. Idiot

I was totally expecting this type of comment! What part of my comment suggests that I dont care about what has happened here you idiot? If anything I care more about things like these being a father myself. I was just trying to make a comment on how this was focusing on a national and not actual description of the guy (clearly 11 year old wouldnt know this and i am sure didnt say this). Look at the bigger picture here. Stuff like these steer up racial discrimination. Calm sown and take a chill pill.

Because the description of the guy is coming from an obviously scared 11 year old girl who probably doesn’t know the difference between Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, etc.

Exactly my point! Girl wouldnt know this and my comment was towards whoever took the complain and published.

Let me understand this — you want the person who takes the police report on this attack to have the ability edit the racial profile/description provided by the victim? And this, your concept, will somehow ~avoid~ racial profiling? Wow, just really WOW!

You clearly do not understand. When a white person or a black person commits a crime, they don’t specifically list a nationality, they just say the physical skin color of the suspect. However, over here, they clearly list the suspect as being Indian or Hispanic when it should say “brown male.” There are brown people all over the world, they aren’t only Hispanic or Indian, they can be any nationality. All white people are not just Italian or Irish. All black people are not just Jamaican or Nigerian. This is NOT the victim’s fault, this is clearly an example of laziness from the police’s report or the author of this article.
