New York & Company, a retail clothing chain, will permanently close at least four locations in Queens, according to various store employees throughout the borough.
The Astoria, Jamaica, Ridgewood and Bayside stores are all slated to close, according to employees at the respective locations. The only other store in the borough is at Queens Center Mall, which is currently closed due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Employees at the Astoria location said that it would shut at the end of August, while the closing dates at the other venues has not been established. All four stores currently have closing sales.
New York & Company‘s parent company, RTW Retailwinds Inc. filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy on July 13. Chapter 11 provides businesses with protection from creditors while they continue operating and develop a repayment plan.
RTW issued a press release earlier this month that said “a significant portion, if not all, of its brick-and-mortar stores” would close.
Store employees told the Queens Post that the company is closing all of its stores, although a RTW spokesperson could not be reached for comment.

Sad. Another business becomes a victim to the coronavirus. Because the government is the cause for the nation wide shut down, then they should bail out these businesses and help them stay afloat. Allowing businesses to close and file bankruptcy only weakens the economy and puts people out of work. Interest free loans and rent suspensions is the solution to preventing business failures.
Any word from Costa? Or is he still drafting letters to the SLA about Melody on Steinway street? Steinway is fast becoming a blighted area with countless empty storefronts and no plans from anyone on what to do about it.
Why are the comments talking about Key Food and war zone markets? I was under the impression that the article was about a CLOTHING store going belly up? Do libs buy grocieries at clothing stores now??
The Ditmars area has other markets. One on Ditmars and 37th street, one on Ditmars and 43rd Street and one on 24th Ave and 33 St. Both deliver. There is also a supermarket on 21 avenue and 21 street. Walking two to three blocks away from the current Key Food location is not going to hurt anyone. I guess some of our officials are trying to get their names in the paper after they lost the borough president election.
