A new Greek restaurant will be opening on Astoria Blvd next month offering ‘gyro shots’ – small gyros paced inside shot glasses that are the burger equivalent of sliders.

SVL Bar, which will be opening at 30-18 Astoria Blvd, will offer sampler gyros served in four-inch portions placed inside a shot glass. The restaurant will serve four ‘gyro shots’ for $20.

Choices include lamb, beef, pork, chicken and a vegetarian option made with portobello mushrooms.

shotglassPeter Katsiaris, the owner of SVL Bar and a life-long Astoria resident, said the gyro shots are very unique.

“This is something very different,” Katsiaris said. “I don’t think Astoria has seen it before…even the whole of New York.”

Diners will also be able to order regular-sized gyros in addition to souvlaki, salads, burgers and kabobs. The eatery also plans to offer wine and beer. Katsiaris said he is in talks with several Long Island City breweries.

Katsiaris said the restaurant will be serving all-natural meats from local purveyors. This includes anti-biotic free meat, and free-range chicken. He also plans on offering as many organic ingredients as possible.

“We are trying to get the healthiest products possible without compromising taste,” Katsiaris said.

The restaurant, which will be able to seat 35 people, will also be offering delivery to Astoria and Long Island when it opens.
