Möge Tee, a global bubble tea chain, opened a Sunnyside location Monday.
The new franchise location—the sixteenth in New York City and eighth in Queens—has opened at 45-18 Queens Boulevard. The company has more than 380 shops worldwide.
The new location takes over the space once occupied by Kase Studio, next door to Alpha Donuts.
The Sunnyside venue joins several other Möge Tee shops scattered throughout the borough.
The company, best known for its Chinese “New-Style Tea” has stores in Flushing, Long Island City, Forest Hills, Fresh Meadows and Bayside.
The shop will serve the chain’s signature bubble teas–cold Asian teas made with sweetened milk and tapioca balls.
Featured items on the menu include fruit milk teas with a sweet and salty ‘cheese foam’ topping and fresh fruits.
Other items that will be on the drink menu include chinese tea, herbal tea, fruit slush, milk tea, green tea and yogurt drinks. No food items will be served at this location.
Dike Yu, who is a co-owner of the Sunnyside location and is originally from China, said he decided to open the Queens Boulevard location because there is a lack of bubble tea shops in the area.
“I used to live in Sunnyside and could never find a bubble tea shop,” Yu said, who lived in the neighborhood from 2017 to 2019. He now lives in Long Island City.
He said that bubble tea has grown in popularity and is consumed by people of all ethnic backgrounds.
“Everybody likes it,” Yu said.
