A 24-year-old Brooklyn man who shot a Duane Reade store worker in Woodside as part of an armed robbery spree in November 2018 was convicted by a federal jury Thursday and faces at least 31 years in prison.
Elgin Brack, along with his uncle Scott Brack, 51, went on a robbery rampage during the early hours of Nov. 28, 2018 and targeted a number of convenience stores in the neighborhoods of Astoria, Woodside and Jamaica over a roughly two-hour period.
During the Woodside stick-up, Elgin shot a Duane Reade employee at the 60-02 Roosevelt Ave. store in the face and hand after he was denied cash. The employee was left in critical condition, but did survive.
“The defendant has been held responsible by the jury for his crime spree that left bloodshed and terrorized victims in its wake,” said United States Attorney Richard P. Donoghue in a statement. “Today’s verdict ensures that Elgin Brack will face substantial punishment.”
Scott Brack, who was Elgin’s get-away driver, pleaded guilty for his involvement in 2019 and awaits sentencing.
The armed robberies took place between 3:35 a.m. and 5:45 a.m. on Nov. 26, with the Duane Reade store in Woodside being the first store to be targeted.
Elgin entered the Woodside store and pretended to make a purchase — and then pointed a gun at the clerk when the cash register opened. When the clerk refused to hand over the cash, Elgin shot him and then fled the store empty-handed.
His uncle was waiting for him and the pair then drove to the 7-Eleven at 50-92 Northern Blvd. in Woodside at around 3:55 a.m.
Elgin again posed as a customer and tried to buy items at the counter. When the employee opened the cash register, he displayed a firearm and demanded money. The employee complied and he fled with $300 in cash.
At 4:15 a.m., the duo drove over to the Rite Aid store at 33-01 30th Ave. in Astoria where Elgin posed as a customer yet again. When the employee opened the cash register, Elgin displayed a firearm and demanded money. The employee gave him $802 in cash from register.
The pair then targeted the Rite Aid store at 115-10 Merrick Blvd. in Jamaica at about 4:40 a.m. Elgin posed as a customer and when the employee opened the cash register he pulled out a gun and demanded money. The employee complied and he left with $200 cash.
The police were quick to nab the duo — apprehending them within 24 hours.
The police located the getaway vehicle in the Bronx at around 9 p.m. the same day as the robberies. They recovered clothing from the back seat that matched the clothes worn by Elgin during the robbery and the gun used in the shooting. Elgin’s DNA was on the gun.
“Today’s verdict ensures that Elgin Brack will pay a price for the violence and terror that he perpetrated on the streets of New York,” said ATF Special Agent-in-Charge DeVito in a statement. “The reckless violence the defendant left in his wake will be met with years in prison contemplating his crimes and harm done to his fellow citizens.”

The family committed crime together, lock up together. Well hopefully they will be cell mates so they won’t need protection or be a pain in the ass
to each other.
