Kaufman Astoria Studios will be offering a behind-the-scenes look at the movie making business

New York on LocationAug. 19, 2014 By Michael Florio

The public will have the opportunity to go behind the scenes and see how films and TV shows are made at Kaufman Astoria Studios for one day next month.

Kaufman Astoria Studios, along with the Museum of Moving Image and Theatrical Teamsters Local 817, will present “New York on Location” on September 21—that will provide an inside look into the movie-making business.

The event will provide attendees with access to more than 20 working movie trailers and trucks that are being used for productions being shot in New York.

The public will also have the opportunity to speak to movie professionals about what they do—and watch stunt people perform high falls and street fights. There will be access to dressing rooms, props, cameras, wardrobes and more.

Kaufman Astoria Studios is currently home to the production of Orange is the New Black, Sesame Street and Nurse Jackie.

The event will start at 11 am and run until 5 pm. The studio hosted New York on Location back in 2007 and this is the first one since.

Meanwhile, the Museum of Moving Image will also be hosting an exhibit called “Behind the Screen,” which provides a window into how films are made, marketed and shown. It will provide attendees with a look at the history of film making. That exhibit, which is currently on show, is ongoing.

Mr. Florio – Thanks very much for the article. This sounds like a lot of fun. But the article does not say how people can attend/get tickets. Do you have any information about that?

Manhattan bouncer charged in New Year’s Day fatal stabbing in Elmhurst: NYPD

A Manhattan man was arrested on Saturday and charged in the fatal stabbing of an East Elmhurst man during the early morning hours of New Year’s Day in what notably became the city’s first homicide of 2024.

Torrence Holmes, 35, of St. Nicholas Place in Hamilton Heights, was taken into custody at his home and transported back to Queens, where he was booked at the 110th Precinct in Elmhurst on manslaughter and other charges on Saturday afternoon.

After surge of traffic violence, Queens leaders demand safer streets especially for children

Following a tragic week on Queens streets where three pedestrians — 43-year-old Natalia Garcia-Valencia, 58-year-old Elisa Bellere and 8-year-old Bayrron Palomino Arroyo — were fatally struck by unsafe drivers, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards announced that he has allocated $1.5 million in capital funding for street safety improvements on three of the borough’s most dangerous roadways.

Richards made the announcement at 82nd Street and Astoria Boulevard in East Elmhurst on Monday morning, about a mile from where the 8-year-old boy was struck and killed by an impatient pickup truck driver from Flushing on Mar. 13 as he walked in the crosswalk at 31st Avenue and 101st Street with him mother and brother, who was injured.
