Former CNBC Anchor and Sunnyside Resident to Challenge AOC in Primary

(Caruso-Cabrera for New York)

Feb. 11, 2020 By Allie Griffin

A former CNBC anchor and Sunnyside resident will challenge Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for her Congressional seat in the Democratic primary election.

Michelle Caruso-Cabrera today announced her run for the 14th District, which covers Astoria, College Point, Corona, East Elmhurst, Elmhurst, Jackson Heights, Sunnyside, Woodside and parts of the Bronx.

“I’m running for NY-14, to fight for the people of Queens & the Bronx, the daughter of Cuban immigrants and living the American Dream,” Caruso-Cabrera said on Twitter.

Caruso-Cabrera worked at CNBC as an anchor and reporter for more than 20 years. After leaving the network in September 2018, she continued to serve as a contributor, but will take a leave from that role for the duration of the duration of the campaign, according to CNBC.

Caruso-Cabrera supports limited government and fiscal conservatism, as shown in her 2010 book titled “You Know I’m Right: More Prosperity, Less Government” — positioning her to the right of socialist-leaning liberal firebrand, Ocasio-Cortez.

The former CNBC anchor responded that she lives in Sunnyside when asked by a reporter on Twitter.

Ocasio-Cortez shocked the Queens Democratic establishment with her win over longtime incumbent Joe Crowley in the June 2018 Democratic primary.

Caruso-Cabrera and Ocasio-Cortez are two of nearly a dozen candidates vying for the Congressional seat.

The primary election is slated for June 23.

I would gladly vote for Ms. Caruso-Cabrera to replace AOC. AOC and like-minded politicians won’t rest until they turn Queens into a third-world dump.
With their track record of driving away jobs and rising crime one would think their political career would be over. No such luck, unfortunately

Wish I could vote for AOC!!! But i do not live in her District of Astoria. Maybe I will move to the Ditmars area of Astoria! My lease is up next month. I am sure the no brokers fee for tenants will uphold in court and many will!

Great move by Michelle to increase her career in television. There’s really no downside for her even though she will lose. Cable news will increase her pay significantly to be a talking head “contributor”.

I saw A.O.C. speak at a Sanders rally (FEEL THE BERN!) in Las Vegas. She got the crowd riled up and it was a SRO (standing room only) packed venue. She became a household name very quickly. My vote is for AOC!

Imagine being this gullible

You…didn’t know that elected officials speak at rallies?!

Trump had several rallies AFTER he was elected, you’re mad about that too right?

I moved to the Ditmars area of Astoria in my 20’s from Sunnyside. I am currently in my 30’s and raising a family here (i have 2 yng children). I voted for AOC and will continue to vote for her. Even my parents who are in their 60’s voted for AOC in Sunnyside. She managed to beat Joe Crowley and I am sure she will not have a problem beating all the other candidates.

Carolyn Maloney will need support in Astoria or she will lose to another AOC. If Republicans register as Democrats for primaries, they may help

I think Michelle and any other candidate will lose to AOC. The media has created a frenzy with AOC and her party and her supporters have been flocking to her district to insure she remain in politics. Those that disagree have no idea how the thought process for the democratic sway of voting is changing and the neighborhood along with it.

She is gonna lose and badly. AOC has such popular support with the growing liberal crowd in Astoria. The majority of who are renters or condo owners. More than half of the landlords do not even live here anymore. Older people stay home during these elections. Look at how well Tiffany Caban did in Astoria.

Michelle is a free market capitalist!!! How will that jive with such a heavy democratic (growing liberal) district?

Finally a viable, smart Democratic challenger! Game on with MCC vs. AOC. Can’t wait for the debate. Someone with in-depth knowledge of financial issues would be a welcome addition to Congress.

The New York City Council passed a landmark bill on Wednesday, aiming to relieve renters of paying hefty broker fees — a cost that will now fall on the party who hires the listing agent. Known as the FARE Act (Fairness in Apartment Rentals), the legislation passed with a veto-proof majority of 42-8, despite opposition from Republicans and conservative Democrats.
