A man armed with a machete was shot by police who were responding to a domestic disturbance in an Astoria apartment Monday morning.

The man, 27, was shot in the groin by a police officer inside an apartment at 31-63 33rd St. just before 10 a.m. after a woman called 911 in fear of her life, according to the NYPD.

The woman told the 911 dispatcher that the man – who is the father of her 3-year-old child – had taken a lot of pills and said he wanted to die while wielding a machete.

Four cops arrived on the scene and were removing the woman and her child from the apartment when the man grabbed the woman’s mother who was also inside the residence, NYPD Chief of Department Kenneth Corey said at a lunchtime press briefing.

After a tense standoff, the man let the older woman go. The police then fired a taser at the suspect who was still wielding a machete.

“The taser had no effect,” Corey said. “One officer then discharged approximately three rounds striking the male in the groin area.”

After being shot, the wounded man was apprehended and transported by EMS to Elmhurst Hospital in stable condition, police said. He is expected to recover, Corey said.

A large machete was recovered at the scene. The suspect was the only person injured in the standoff.

Corey said that the police have been called to the suspect’s address before, pertaining to domestic disputes.

“There have been multiple allegations of domestic assault and harassment,” Corey said. “Order of protections have been in effect and have been violated on multiple occasions.”.

The suspect has also been recently arrested for assaulting a police officer.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.

The neighbors must love living next to them. The 911-caller-woman is blaming the police for the shooting of the boyfriend. Having a machete is a must to be a good, peaceful, anti-police protestor. Imagine living next to a person who pulls out a machete whenever he feels uncomfortable…
