A free concert series in Astoria Park kicks off this week – with a Blondie tribute band.
The series, which was organized by The Central Astoria Local Development Coalition (LLC), will take place on the park’s Great Lawn. Concertgoers should enter the park on 19th Street and 23rd Avenue.
The first of the four shows will feature Blondie tribute band, SundayGirl, on Thursday.
The following Thursday – June 10 – a Bon Jovi tribute band, BonJourneyNY, will perform.
A Doo-wop group, The Jersey Jutebox, will take the outdoor stage June 17, followed by Michael Patrick’s Ring of Fire Band – a Johnny Cash tribute band – on June 24.
All of the concerts will begin at 7 p.m. and run until about 8:30 p.m.
Organizers said to check Central Astoria LDC Facebook page for updates about any delays or cancellations – in the event of severe weather.
Attendees may want to bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit on during the show, event organizers said.
The Central Astoria LDC credited former Councilmember Costa Constantinides with allocating funding for the concert series and Councilmember Jimmy Van Bramer with providing additional support.
The organization said the city’s Department of Cultural Affairs – in partnership with the City Council – also provided funding for the events.

Hi I was wondering any more concerts for July 2021
I hope there will be some R&B or Neo Soul at some point… you know, rhythm
NO mention on where to park!!!!
Will there be an area for the audience to dance to these bands? I dont just want to sit around in a chair!
