The creators of trendy cookie shop Chip will expand across western Queens this spring with the opening of an ice cream shop in Astoria in May and a new Chip cookie shop location in Long Island City in June.

Chip Ice Cream will specialize in ice cream blended with Chip cookies, ice cream sandwiches and classic ice cream flavors.

The ice cream shop will have a soft opening the second or third week of May near the intersection of 41st Street and 31st Avenue. The store will be open seven days a week from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. starting June 1.

Chip will then open a new cookie shop near Queens Plaza in June. Further details about the bakery will be released later this week, said Chip owner Peter, who declined to give his full name.

Since Chip opened at 30-06 34th St last summer, the shop has become locally famous for its thick cookies with zany flavors such as apple pie and s’mores— and for attracting long lines of dessert lovers. The shop sells more than 1,000 cookies each day, Peter said.

Chip Ice Cream will seek to reproduce some of that magic with a dessert that is as nostalgic as fresh-baked cookies, said Peter.

“We thought it was a really good complement for cookies,” said Peter.

The shop will blend favorite Chip cookies into its ice cream and create ice cream sandwiches crafted with a slightly thinner version of the original chip cookie. The ice cream and sandwiches will be assembled on site, although the ice cream itself will be prepared at another location.

Like the original Chip, the shop will be a small grab and go dessert parlor, with stools and outdoor benches.

LaGuardia crowned best airport in United States by Forbes Travel Guide following $8 billion transformation

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey proudly announced on Oct. 22 that Forbes Travel Guide selected LaGuardia Airport as the best airport in the United States a decade after then-Vice President Joe Biden likened the transportation hub to one that would be found in a third-world nation in a speech lamenting the state of infrastructure in America.

Forbes released its first Verified Air Travel Awards based on a survey of 5,000 hospitality and travel experts and the guide’s most well-traveled fliers. The recognition is the latest in a long list of accolades given to LaGuardia throughout the course of the airport’s historic $8 billion transformation.
