Dec. 21, 2020 By Christian Murray

Chip, the famed Astoria cookie bakery, is opening a shop in Sunnyside– half a block south of the 40th Street subway station.

The Sunnyside location is scheduled to open at 45-05 40th St. Tuesday and will be the company’s sixth bakery since it was founded in Astoria in July 2017.

The shop is known best for its thick cookies and zany flavors— including fan favorites such as funfetti, s’mores, oatmeal apple and peanut butter.

The company has about 40 cookie recipes and offers about four flavors at any one time.

The cookies are baked in-shop with the batter prepared nearby at a commercial kitchen.

The first Chip launched at 30-06 34th St. In 2018 the company opened another in the Ditmars section of Astoria at 22-04 33rd St.

Last year it opened a location in Long Island City—at 42-15 Crescent St.– and another in the West Village in Manhattan. Last month, it opened its first Brooklyn shop in Williamsburg.

The company opened an ice cream shop in 2018 near the intersection of 41st Street and 31st Avenue but that closed last year.

While I can say I have had quite a few of these, and many are great. The one thing I noticed more often than a good cookie is the quality of the staff at their locations and their pleasant and personable interactions.
