Feb. 3, 2016 By Christian Murray

A 63-year-old East Elmhurst man pleaded guilty today to child pornography charges and faces between one to three years in prison upon sentencing, according to the Queens District Attorney’s office.

The defendant, Michael Murray, was arrested in April 2014 after police discovered that he had several graphic images of children on his laptop.

Murray was caught after he took his computer to Best Buy at 50-01 Northern Blvd. to be repaired. When the technician booted up Murray’s laptop to fix it, he discovered a screen saver that showed a slide show of images of young girls posing provocatively or engaging in sex acts with adult men.

The technician alerted his supervisor of the slide show’s content who, after seeing the images, contacted police.

When police went to Murray’s residence soon afterwards, he admitted that he knew what was on his screen saver and had been exchanging files of child pornography with others on the Internet for approximately five years. A forensic exam of the defendant’s computer revealed nearly 400 images of child pornography.

Murray pleaded guilty to promoting a sexual performance by a child and will be sentenced on March 22, 2016, according to the district attorney.

“The defendant has now admitted to having vile, disturbing images of children on his computer’s hard drive,” said District Attorney Richard A Brown in a statement.

“It is important for the public to remember that these photographs depict real children who have been sexually abused. They are youngsters who will forever be emotionally and physically scarred by what happened to them.”
