Astoria Taco Restaurant to Close After Less Than a Year in Business

Tacostoria (

Sept. 17, 2021 By Allie Griffin

The owner of an Astoria taco restaurant that opened in December has announced that he is closing the venue after less than a year in business.

Tacostoria, located at 36-05 30th Ave., will close for good at the end of the business day Friday.

The owner had operated a series of restaurants out of the 30th Avenue location for more than a decade but decided not to renew his lease.

The short-lived Mexican restaurant has been serving fusion-inspired tacos, blended burritos, specialty appetizers, custom-made frozen drinks, flavored sangrias and a large selection of craft cocktails since late last year.

The restaurant is hosting a “Drink Us Dry” event Friday with special discounts on classic margaritas, frozen margaritas, beer and food items. The deals include free shots and 2-for-1 specials.

“Tacostoria Taqueria and Cantina is closing its doors for good, but not before it takes the opportunity to thank customers for their loyal support throughout the pandemic by hosting a two-day “Drink Us Dry” event,” the restaurant website states.

The two-day event began yesterday and continues today, the last two days the eatery is open.

The owner of the restaurant told Patch that it was a difficult decision to close since he has run several different restaurants out of the storefront for 15 years.

He said it was sad to leave the neighborhood, which he called “without a doubt one of the best communities in NYC.”

“I have met so many wonderful Astorians over the years,” he told Patch.

It’s too bad this happened. It was a nice alternative to Avenue, Blend, and Grand Cafe-all of which cater to the trashiest posers out there.
