Astoria Bagel Chain to Open Location on Broadway

Astoria bagel chain New York City Bagel and Coffee House will open its fourth location this January.

The shop will be located at 29-10 Broadway, a brand new, 6-story building that will also offer 64 apartments and other street-level stores. Like the other New York City Bagel and Coffee House locations, the shop will serve a variety of bagels and spreads, soups, coffee, beer on-tap, and breakfast staples such as eggs and pancakes.

Co-owner John Loukas, an Astoria native who currently resides in Bayside, has run the bagel chain with a partner, Michael Lagoudis, since 2013.

Loukas said that the bagel shops have been warmly received by the community in Astoria due to the quality of their food. All of the bagels are made by hand and on-site.

“When bagels are hand rolled, they taste differently than when they’re made by a machine,” said Loukas.

Loukas added that the New York City Bagel and Coffee House aspires to create a homey atmosphere in its shops.

The locations are somewhat large for bagel shops— the new shop will boast about 50 seats— so that families can sit together to enjoy breakfast, and that people can linger to use the WiFi.

Loukas said that he particularly likes the area surrounding the new shop because there are many families, and the residents seem to be “friendly.”

Loukas feels that the warm culture of New York City Bagel and Coffee House will fit in with the neighborhood.

“We’re family,” he said of the store. “We know everybody’s names, their kids’ names.”

Great atmosphere and decent bagels. It’s the former that draws people into their shops. I will pop into their locations from time to time but I prefer Brooklyn bagels.

I thought this was supposed to be a supermarket — wasn’t there a “Food Emporium” sign there for a while?

So glad to see traditions are still alive in Astoria. I was born and raised there. It was the best time of my life. Can’t wait for the grand opening. By the way, when is that? AQ 4LIFE!

Definitely not a fan of their bagels. They are more like rolls, if anything. Good luck to them though.

Average bagels is being kind. Two dunkin donuts, another bagel spot across the street, another one between 32nd and 33rd, Brooklyn bagel between 35th and 36th. Bagel shops are the new froyo spots. Which used to be 99¢ stores and before that banks.

would MUCH rather see more froyo and bagels than another junk store or bank. unless it’s chase going back into that still-vacant spot between 32nd and 33rd streets on broadway. ugh come back, chase
