A former Astoria resident was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for the 1992 murder of a 23-year-old man, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown announced yesterday.
The defendant, 44-year-old James Pacheco who formerly lived at 40-08 10th Street, pleaded guilty in October of shooting the 23-year-old victim William Pabon Figueroa twice in the back of the head in 1992.
According to the charges, after shooting the victim in the fifth floor hallway of 41-11 10th Street, Pacheco went to Figueroa’s 10th Street residence and stole a bag containing $5,000 that belonged to the victim.
Pacheco is currently serving life without parole in Florida on an unrelated murder and burglary, and wrote a letter confessing his guilt in the Figueroa murder in 2012.
