Another Casualty At Former Candy Bar Spot With Gym Closing After Less Than A Year

Live Fit

June 28, 2016 By Michael Florio

A Ditmars Boulevard gym is closing its doors after being in business for less than a year.

Live Fit, which opened at 19-31 Ditmars Blvd. last November, is currently for rent and a sign in the window states “office only.”

The gym closed down in May, according to Jerry Jurcic, co-owner of RWB Contracting Corp., located right next to the gym.

“It closed about a month ago,” he said. “It wasn’t open long at all.”

The property’s realtor confirmed Monday that the space is still for rent, but would not provide any further information.

The gym offered classes and one-on-one training. Classes included interval training, suspension training, Pilates and total-body “boot camps,” owner Danielle McAlpine told the Astoria Post in October.

Prior to the gym opening, the Candy Bar occupied the space. The candy shop opened in 2012 and closed in July 2015.

The Candy Bar owner, Randy Klien, stated at the time that the location is off of the beaten path of Ditmars Boulevard, which played a factor in the business’ struggles.
