After enduring nearly two months without gas or hot water, tenants of the Acropolis Gardens will get some attention from Public Advocate Letitia James on Monday.
James will join Councilman Costa Constantinides for a rally outside the Acropolis apartments, which span Ditmars Boulevard to 21st Avenue between 33rd and 35th Streets. They will meet at Ditmars Boulevard and 33rd Street at 11:00 am.
The rally is in response to the weeks-long gas shutoff in half of the Acropolis’ 16 buildings, first reported by DNAInfo. James and Constantinides will call on the Acropolis’ management company, Metropolitan Pacific Properties, to prioritize building repairs necessary for gas to be restored.
“We have been working with all relevant City agencies to restore service but have been stalled by the management company,” Constantinides wrote on his Facebook page.
According to spokesperson Sidney Alvarez, Con Edison discovered “inadequacies” with the Acropolis’ piping in April, and subsequently shut off gas until system repairs could be made.
However, Steve Osman of Metropolitan Pacific Properties insisted that “this was an error on Con Ed’s part.”
“There’s no gas leak here, there’s no odor or gas,” he continued. “Nothing’s wrong with the system.”
Osman said management is currently busy testing lines and installing new gas meters, as instructed by Con Edison.
According to Department of Buildings documents, several Acropolis buildings have outstanding violations, including a handful of gas- and piping-related issues over the past three months.
Seven of the Acropolis Gardens buildings remain without gas; 21-48 35th Street was restored last week, according to Alvarez.

This is a real slum where the board has not been changed since 2006 and they hire the same contractor who seems to be related to the president of the board. the corruption is rampant and if you protest you could get falsely arrested by some insiders in the 112th precinct who terrorize shareholders who rightfully denounce the boards corruption. you think this is a slum? give me a break
You think this is a slum??? you should visit 6601 BURNS STREET in REGO PARK, NEW YORK 11374, they cut up the boiler and dumped it over a window despite of the asbestos residues left in that boiler, the board has not changed since 2006, if you disagree they will get you falsely arrested because they have “insiders” in the local 112 precinct and the criminal court, talking about slums, give me a break.
That building is an ugly mess. People should be fuming over this SLUM BUILDING being in the neighborhood. THIS is what brings down property values. Who would want to live near it? LET ALONE IN IT.

wish i had known about this sooner so i could rally with those folks! i used to live in the acropolis until a fire forced me out. management still owes a significant chuck of money including sec deposit. crooks
This building is an eyesore and a blight on the neighborhood. People complain about Westway Motel becoming a homeless shelter which doesn’t bother me at all, now THIS building bothers me! They should shut it down and level it flat. The poor souls that live there are being swindled.

The building is obviously not repaired appropriately. Has it been reprinted in the last 10 years?? Look at the for lease store on Ditmars that’s been for lease for — 3 years with No repairs, no effort to market it, graffiti all over. It’s an eyesore and an embarrassment to the community.
