A 16-year-old student has been arrested after he allegedly brought a gun to Long Island City High School Monday morning.

The teen was caught with a loaded weapon at the school, located at 14-30 Broadway, at around 8:15 a.m. after staff at the school searched his backpack, police said.

The search was prompted after the student was found in possession of a knife.

The 16-year-old had allegedly slashed another student at the school recently and the school’s dean asked him this morning if he still had the weapon.

The student then turned over the knife which prompted school authorities to search his backpack for additional weapons.

The loaded gun was then found inside the teen’s backpack and school safety agents placed him under arrest, police said.

The teen was charged with criminal possession of a loaded weapon and having a gun on school grounds. He was also hit with an obstruction charge for pushing a school safety agent during the arrest, according to police.

What do you expect when anyone can buy a gun anywhere, no questions asked? You think this gun just magically appeared in his bag? That some “illegal gun fairy” left it under his pillow? Hell no! Some “Responsible Gun Owner” purchased it from a licensed dealer and then made a “private sale” (read: no background check, no questions asked) to this kid – and he’s going to do it again because you can’t prove he did anything illegal. This country’s gun laws are a joke.

Good kid trying to turn his life around. Victim of systemic racism and limited access to fresh fruit and vegetables
