Bank of America to Close 37th Street Branch

Aug. 27, 2018 By Tara Law

Bank of America is closing one of its Astoria branches at the end of November.

The bank is shutting down its 19-50 37th St. branch on Nov. 27 and shifting its customers to the 31-81 Steinway St. location. An additional ATM will be added to the Steinway Street branch to accommodate the additional customers, the spokesperson said.

The closure is part of BOA’s strategy to consolidate branches that offer services available online, according to the spokesperson.

“As more clients do their traditional banking outside of financial centers [banks], financial centers are used increasingly to address more substantial yet infrequent client needs, like planning for retirement, securing a loan or establishing a banking relationship for their small business,” the spokesperson said.

Besides the Steinway Street location, Bank of America branches are located two miles away at 37-41 82nd St. in Jackson Heights and at 30-18 36th Ave. in Long Island City.
