The owner of the popular Brooklyn Bagel & Coffee Company will soon be opening another café—just one block away from his current Ditmars Blvd location.

Panos Voyiatzis, the owner of Brooklyn Bagel and longtime Ditmars resident, plans to open “60 Beans” at 36-02 Ditmars Blvd, in late July or early August.

The café will have full coffee bar– featuring espresso, pourovers and ice coffee on tap.

Voyiatzis also plans to sell loose-leaf tea, wine and beer. He has already applied for a wine and beer license.

The café will offer sandwiches, soup, salads and French pastries.

“Everything will be made on premises,” Voyiatzis said.

The cafe will seat around 50 people—which consists of about 35-40 seats inside and a sidewalk seating area that can cater to about 12 people. The café has already received the approval of Community Board 1 for outdoor seating.

Voyiatzia said he is trying to create a relaxing environment.

“I want people to feel comfortable to come alone or work or to bring a date,” he said.

Voyiatzis grew up on Ditmars Blvd (and 35th street) and has been an Astoria resident for the past 35 years.

The community, he said, has been very eager to learn about his new café. Many ask when it will be open and what is behind the name, he said.

The café is named after Beethoven’s belief that “60 beans” should always go into a cup of coffee.

Voyiatzis said the café has already garnered a following.
