St. Paddy’s Pub Crawl Taking Place Next Weekend Will Help Bars Impacted by Subway Closures

An annual St. Patrick’s Day pub crawl taking place this weekend will call attention to bars impacted by the temporary shutdown of the 30th and 36th Avenue (N/W) stations in Astoria.

The fourth annual St. Paddy’s Pub crawl will take place on March 17. The crawl will begin at The Shillelagh Tavern at 47-22 30th Ave. at 1 p.m.

The crawl will not have a set route in order to include more bars than in past years, said Ashley Dean, an event organizer known professionally as the “Queen of Astoria.”

Dean said she was inspired to help more local businesses this year, especially after reading about the impact of the subway stations’ closures on them. The subway stations along 30th and 36th Avenue are scheduled to remain closed for repairs until June.

“We picked bars that needed our support,” said Dean.

Each bar will offer a unique drink special to crawlers and several will have live music. About 75 participants have attended the crawl annually, said Dean.

Participating bars along 36th Avenue are Beans & Lager at 33-01; Mad Donkey Beer Bar & Grill at 32-07; and Veronica’s Bar at 34-04.

Along 30th Avenue, the bars Judy and Punch at 34-08 and Passage at 40-11 will participate in the crawl.

Sunswick at 35-02 35th St., Katch Astoria at 31-19 Newtown Ave and Albatross at 36-19 24th Ave. will also be included.

Tickets are available at the link for $20, which includes a t-shirt, pizza at Shillelagh’s Tavern and drink specials. For an extra $10, attendees can receive a jersey instead of a t-shirt.

Dogfish Head Brewery, which is cosponsoring the event, will have giveaways at different bars.

They should have picked a week after or before. These places will already be busy for St. Patricks.

That’s just an assumption you’re making. They clearly didn’t want to risk losing business on a holiday weekend and were willing and appreciative of their inclusion into the pub crawl.

East Elmhurst man busted for a fatal collision in Flushing Meadows Corona Park on the 4th of July: NYPD

A Queens grand jury indicted an East Elmhurst man in connection to a July 4th fatal collision at Flushing Meadows Corona Park.

Yersson Diaz, 27, of Ericsson Street just south of LaGuardia Airport, appeared at Queens Criminal Court for a summons on Tuesday and was taken into custody, according to an NYPD spokeswoman.
