Police Looking for Alleged Pickpocket Who Took Cash/Phone From Man at Astoria Store

The NYPD released footage today of a man who police believe swiped cash and a phone out of the pocket of an unsuspecting victim in Astoria last month.

The alleged pickpocket got into a conversation with the victim inside the Empire State Deli, located at 42-16 30th Ave. on Saturday, Dec. 31 at about 4:00 a.m., according to police. The suspect then hugged the victim and stole his property.

The pickpocket fled the store eastbound on 30 Avenue with the victim’s cell phone and wallet that contained approximately $100 in cash, according to police.

The suspect is described as a black, 18 to 21 years old, 5 feet 10 inches, 150 pounds; last seen wearing a green baseball cap, a dark colored hooded sweater, a dark colored jacket and dark colored pants.

Queens elected officials secure $70 million from New York State Budget for school safety equipment in religious and independent schools
