Starbucks to Open its Fifth Astoria Location

Astoria is about to get its fifth Starbucks.

The Seattle-based coffee chain is about to open a store at 30-18 Astoria Boulevard, according to a representative from the company.

The company doesn’t have a firm opening date. However, nearby store owners believe it is this summer.

Victor Kassimov, owner of Domenick’s Wines & Spirits, located two doors down from the proposed Starbucks location, said he believes the new Starbucks store will help his business. “It should lead to more cliental,” he said.

Kassimov said Starbucks is moving into a good section of Astoria, one he moved into in December.

The coffee giant already has stores covering two of the six N/Q subway stops that go through or near the neighborhood—namely Ditmars (22-04 31st Street) and Broadway (31-01 Broadway). The new location would be near the Astoria Blvd stop.

Starbucks also has a Steinway Street location (31-44 Steinway) as well as a store near the Kaufman Astoria Studios at 37-11 35th Avenue.

A Brooklyn man was indicted by a Queens grand jury on charges of manslaughter, drunk driving and other crimes for a fatal collision in Astoria that killed his long-time girlfriend and mother of their young child in February.

Ray Perez, 27, of Caton Avenue in Flatbush, was arraigned Thursday in Queens Supreme Court on a 13-count indictment charging him with vehicular manslaughter for allegedly speeding through a stop sign in Astoria, colliding with another vehicle and slamming into two parked cars, and then driving nearly four miles away to a street in Maspeth before seeking help for his 29-year-old girlfriend Bridget Enriquez, who later succumbed to her injuries.
