March 10, 2017 Staff Report
An Astoria wine bar was temporarily shut down this week by the Health Department for several health code violations.
Winegasm, a wine bar located at 31-86 37th Street was shut down on Wednesday for racking up 40 health code violation points during a routine inspection, according to a report on the Health Department website.
The report noted several critical and critical non-violations that led to the closure of the restaurant.
The critical violations included evidence of mice on the premises and the failure to protect food from a potential source of contamination.
The report also noted non-critical violations such as the facility not being vermin proof and lacking an accurate thermometer in a refrigerated or hot holding environment.
The Health Department gives out letter grades to restaurants based on a points system. Any restaurant that receives between zero and 13 points receives an A grade, any receiving between 14 and 27 points gets a B grade, and any with 28 or more points gets a C grade. Each point value is assigned based on the size and scale of the violation.

So you can have 13 points and be an A.. Its a joke.. they should have a special rating for places with 0 Points.
