Permits have been filed for a six-story mixed-use building on 32nd Street.

The building, planned for 37-29 32nd St., will feature 10 apartments, as well as commercial space located on the first floor and in the cellar.

The building will offer a cellar-level fitness studio. Building tenants will also have access to a bike storage room in the cellar. A residential lobby and commercial space will be located on the first floor.

A duplex will also be located on the first floor and in the cellar of the building. The other apartments will be located on floors two through five, and tenants will also have access to a roof terrace.

Demolition permits for an existing single-story building were filed in June.

The property is located two blocks from the 39th Ave. (N/W) subway station and three blocks from the 36th St. (R) station.

The property is owned by Brett Harris of Aki Development. ND Kazalas Architecture is responsible for the design.

Nobody even realizes it because our eyes are GLUED to these idiotic screens, our ears are stuffed with earbuds, and our fingers do nothing but twit…twit…tweet all day! Doesn’t anyone see how infantalized we’ve become? If it ain’t on the screen, it didn’t happen…right? HUMANITY! We MUST proclaim…REclaim our humanity!

I like how Southern Astoria is changing. It is for the better. However, Northern Astoria has changed for the worse and is now the trashy part of Astoria. The only part that is nice is that it is way more diverse than it has ever been.

This seems like the ideal location for the Queens Headquarters of Democratic Socialists of America. The space needs to be large enough to accommodate all those refugees from Camp Crowley.

It’s time to stop building apartments. We are like ants ?.. A lot of food stores and nothing for kids. All these storage places, even by con ed, they could’ve build a huge Dave and Busters like place to accommodate kids parties a place to eat and gang, for winter and summer. So many stores no room to play. I grew up in Astoria in my 40s and things have changed. Some good some bad but one thing I’ve noticed? Nothing for kids ever. Play world with decent prices and space. I hope my message could get across ?

There are playgrounds and parks everywhere. I have kids, and there is plenty.

A Dave and Busters? Um, no.
But I agree these storage facilities are dumb. The councilman has no long to plan.

You’re talking about a time when children could play outside when not in school in Astoria without parents fearing for their safety. Parents that neighbors and business owners had an eye out for them. That is no longer the case in Astoria. The family vibe is gone. Hence, parents have to arrange closely supervised indoor/outdoor play dates and such. Holidays are a big bore in Astoria because half of the people do not celebrate them anymore or are away visiting families. Back then streets would close for holiday family block parties on for example the 4th of July.

As long as my children have WiFi they are fine. Astoria is a great place to raise kids (just keep them far away from the Con Ed plants or have them wear masks when around that area).

From all the new people here

Your kids brains will one day turn to jelly thanks to all the WiFi. You just don’t want to be bothered teaching them so you stick them online so you can have your coffee cigarettes and anti depressants

I am so glad I moved from that part of Astoria. Its going to have a real negative impact. But may lower the rents nearby.

The storage facilities are opening up and being built (like on Ditmars) mainly to store all the furniture and belongings that belong to all the homeless people and families who are living in shelters/hotels because of being evicted throughout NYC. Its must be cheaper to be stored then buying them new furniture when a place becomes available.

FDNY prevents disaster in East Elmhurst by seizing 68 illegally stored propane tanks

For the second time in four months, FDNY fire inspectors averted a potential catastrophe in East Elmhurst after finding stockpiles of illegally stored propane tanks in the residential neighborhood.

Fire inspectors from the Special Investigation Unit received a complaint of illegal occupancy at a home just south of LaGuardia Airport at 23-57 89th St. They discovered 68 propane cylinders, which they seized along with five food trucks and a box truck parked on the property last week. The inspectors also found illegal single-room-occupancy in the home’s cellar.
