21-Year-Old in Critical Condition After Accidently Shooting Himself in the Head in Astoria

A 21-year-old man is in critical condition after he accidentally shot himself in the head in Astoria early Monday morning, police said.

The NYPD responded to a 911 call at around 4:30 a.m. of a man injured inside 18-08 25th Rd. Upon arrival, officers came across a man with a gunshot wound to the head.

Police said that witnesses to the incident said the victim shot himself by accident when he mishandled a firearm inside the upscale residence.

The victim was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital-Astoria where he remains in a critical condition, police said.

Police do not suspect criminality and the investigation is ongoing.
