The 114th Police Precinct is hosting a community forum on traffic safety tonight.
Officers from the precinct — which covers parts of Astoria, Long Island City, Woodside and Jackson Heights — will address traffic safety concerns during the virtual forum at 6 p.m. tonight.
The forum will be conducted over Zoom and includes officers in Traffic Safety and Community Affairs divisions.
It is being hosted amid an increase in traffic safety deaths citywide, including two recent fatalities in Astoria.
A 54-year-old woman was struck and killed by an e-bike rider at the end of May and a 37-year-old delivery worker was struck and killed by a reckless driver, who crashed into him and an outdoor dining setup in April.
There has been a 5.8 percent increase in traffic-related injuries in the 114th Precinct so far this year compared to the same time last year, according to NYPD data. Bicycle injuries in the precinct have jumped more than 24 percent from 2020.
The forum also follows complaints of increased drag racing in the district. The issue still persists, according to one local on Twitter.
“Can we address the constant drag racing on 20th & 19th avenues above Steinway?” Twitter user Elani responded to the forum announcement. “Residents are in danger of getting killed walking out of their own house.”
