NYPD on scene Friday

May 27, 2016 Staff Report

A man was seriously injured after jumping from the Astoria/Ditmars Blvd subway station onto the street Friday morning.

At roughly 5:40 a.m. the man got off of a train and was observed climbing onto the “catwalk” – a walkway past the end of the platform that is off limits to the public – according to an MTA spokesperson.

He walked along the catwalk and then jumped off, falling to the street, the spokesperson said.

He was transported to Elmhurst Hospital in serious condition, according to the FDNY.

Both the MTA and FDNY deferred to the NYPD for further questions; the NYPD could not immediately provide additional information about the incident.
