May 12, 2016 Staff Report

Police are searching for a suspect wanted for stealing thousands of dollars out of several women’s bank accounts, including one in Astoria and another in Jackson Heights.

The suspect stole bank account information from four victims and used it to remove money at six different TD Bank locations around the city, according to the NYPD.

The thief struck an Astoria TD Bank location with bankcard information of a 50-year-old victim, who realized money was missing from her account even though she was still in possession of her card.

Police determined that her information was used to withdraw $703 from a TD Bank at 20-46 Steinway St. on March 15. Another $700 was stolen from this victim a day earlier at a Manhattan TD Bank.

A 61-year-old woman’s account was also struck in Jackson Heights. The suspect withdrew $700 from a TD Bank located at 73-14 37th Ave. on March 15. This victim’s account was also hit in Manhattan on March 14.

Two other victims were robbed out of TD Bank locations on 3rd Avenue in Manhattan.

The suspect collected $4,700 in total.

All of the victims were women.

The suspect is described as a white male who often wears a black baseball cap, glasses and a dark colored jacket or sweater.

Police have released photos of the suspect and are asking anyone with any information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).

People do not use debit cards, only credit cards. If someone takes your information they can empty your checking account, but with a credit card you are not liable for anything.

Hopefully NYPD is trying to figure out what these women victims have in common (other than being robbed).

Since they seem to still have their cards, I would bet that they all ate at the same restaurant or shopped at the same store and got skimmed.
