A man was struck by a subway this morning after attempting to grab a 13-year-old boy’s cell phone, according to the NYPD.
A 33-year-old man attempted to take boy’s phone on a Manhattan-bound M-train while it was traveling between the 65th Street station and the Northern Blvd station, according to an NYPD spokeswoman.
The police received a call about the incident and saw the train stopped at the Northern Blvd station. The suspect exited the subway and ran onto the Queens bound express tracks.
As he fled he assaulted a Good Samaritan who attempted to intervene, according to the NYPD.
An M-train struck the suspect, who suffered scratches and bruises. NYPD transit officers who were conducting a search discovered him, the spokeswoman said.
The suspect was arrested and was escorted out of the 65th Street station. He was transported to Elmhurst General Hospital in stable condition.
An investigation is still ongoing and charges are pending, according to the spokeswoman.
The incident occurred just after 8 am on Tuesday. The E, F, M and R trains were suspended but resumed service at about 9 am, although there are extensive delays, an MTA spokeswoman said.
