Pack of would-be thieves attempt to steal safe from 99 Cent store, police say

Police are searching for a group of suspects who attempted to steal a safe from a 99 Cent store in Astoria last month.

The group entered the 99 Cent store located at 35-10 30th Ave on November 18th at 2:05 pm.

Some of the suspects distracted the store clerk, while a female member of the group crawled under the counter and attempted to remove the safe, according to the NYPD.

The female suspect was unsuccessful and fled the location empty handed, according to police.

Police released surveillance photos of the suspects and are asking anyone with any information to call 1-800-577-TIPS.

Astoria seems to have been hit with a rash of underachieving criminals..LOL First a group of stupid teens on Ditmars see a kid withdraw $100 and rob him of $1 then an idiot robs merchandise from Rite Aid with an ice pick now this. Do we really need any more low income housing? You do know that’s the one thing all these losers will have in common.

Astoria doctor sentenced to more than two decades in prison for rape and sexual abuse: DA

An Astoria doctor was sentenced to 24 years in prison on Thursday in Queens Supreme Court for raping unconscious acquaintances and sexually abusing hospital patients.

Dr. Zhi Alan Cheng, 35, of Broadway, pleaded guilty on June 30 to four counts of rape in the first degree and three counts of sexual abuse in the first degree in satisfaction of the consolidated indictments against him. He additionally entered an Alford plea to one count of sexual abuse. The defendant — a former gastroenterologist at New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital — recorded the abuse of his unconscious victims with his cell phone in both his Astoria apartment and at the hospital.
